MONITORING: IN EARS VS. WEDGES (PART 2)

A discussion comparing open speaker monitor systems with in-ear monitor systems.

By Grant Norsworthy

Which is the more important goal for church music as an expression of worship?:

  1.  Absolute control and clarity of the sound being produced from the platform?Or
  2. Inviting the congregation to engage – to connect through sacred songs with each other and with God?

I hope you immediately see that the latter is more important than the former. It is!

Sure, we want great sound. But great sound is not more important than connection.

In this instructional video #20 from the More Than Music Mentor training series, Grant Norsworthy and David Lim continue the conversation from video #19 that was posted here on Monday, Dec. 19, comparing open speaker monitor systems with in-ear monitor systems.

Grant points out that in-ear monitors – especially when used badly – can be a hindrance to our main goal of connection. And open speaker monitors – when used well – can be a huge assistance to engaging the congregation to sing as an expression of worship.
